ScenarioExplorations Change only X

Change only X.

Change one element.
Keep everything else.

A 9-second game shot, edited again and again. Each edit takes the step before it as its input, so every change carries forward. Hold O to see the step before, or compare the two.

0.0 / 9.0s

One run, five edits, one thing at a time.

Claude Opus 5.5 ran every generation through the Scenario MCP. The brief: “a showcase of capabilities of change only X in the video,” with the changes chained, 9 seconds, no audio, a dynamic camera and a game look. Every step below is a of the step before it.

  1. 1

    Design the hero

Kiko started as a : four full-body views and a face close-up in the game's toon-shaded style, made from text.

With GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst, text to image

    Kiko character sheet

One clean silhouette, the same outfit in every view.

  2. 2

    Shoot the run from text

The whole 9 seconds written as beats, with the camera in each: chase, rail grind, leap and grab, landing, whip-in. The sheet was the only image.

One continuous shot, no cuts, a dynamic third-person game camera that stays locked on her the whole time …

    With Seedance 2.5 · 1080p · text + Kiko sheet · 1,024 CU

    The original: the landing

No cuts, and the parcel appears exactly once.

  3. 3

Add a sidekick that keeps up

The owl has to follow a fast camera for 9 seconds. It has its own character sheet, and the prompt locks it to her head “like a pet on an invisible leash”, frame by frame.

It is on screen in every frame from the first to the last, always about the size of her head, never shrinking into the distance, never falling behind, never leaving the frame.

    With Seedance 2.5 · owl sheet · 1,232 CU

    Robot-owl sheet

The owl is in every frame, and there is only one.

  4. 4

    Change what she wears

Kiko's sheet, edited into a sky-pirate captain: same face, hair, clip and headphones, a completely new outfit. That sheet was the one reference for the edit.

    With GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst → Seedance 2.5 · 1,232 CU

    Pirate outfit sheet

No piece of the old outfit is left, and the coat moves with her.

  5. 5

    Change the world with words

Sky to sea, with no image: every sky element named with what it becomes, clouds into ocean, waterfalls into rising bubbles, roofs into coral.

… the rooftops she runs and lands on are covered in colorful coral, sea anemones, shells and little starfish, with the same shapes and positions as the original roofs …

    With Seedance 2.5 · text only · 1,232 CU

    The reef

Every surface changed, and her speed did not.

  6. 6

Swap the hero, keep the run

Lumi got her own character sheet in the same render style, and that sheet, not a single picture, was the input for the change. Four full-body views and a face close-up show her from every angle the camera passes, so she holds up through the chase, the side view and the whip-in.

    With Seedance 2.5 · Lumi sheet · 1,232 CU

    Lumi sheet

Nothing of Kiko is left, and every move lands at the same moment.

  7. 7

    Change two elements at once

A jellyfish companion and an eel for the rail, in one edit. Nami has her own character sheet with very long tentacles, and it is the one image; the eel comes from the prompt.

Change two things, and nothing else. 1. The companion … 2. The rail …

    With Seedance 2.5 · Nami sheet · 1,232 CU

    Nami jellyfish sheet

Both elements changed, and nothing else did.

  8. 8

    Check every frame

Each step was scanned frame by frame for a sudden against the step before. None of the edits added a jump.

    python3 scan_jumps.py step.mp4 --against previous.mp4

With ffmpeg scene detection, no model

Zero new jumps against the input.

The one mistake we made

The same close-up: a jellyfish from text only, and Nami from her character sheet The take

Extra characters described in text only: the robot owl did not stay with her, and the jellyfish came out as a plain pink blob (left).

Why

A new character with no picture leaves the model guessing its look and how it moves with the hero.

The fix

A character sheet for every extra character, as for the hero. Nami from her sheet (right): a face, a frilled bell and long glowing tentacles.

The inputs, step by step

  • 00 The original run: text + Kiko's character sheet.
  • 01 Add a robot: the video + the robot-owl sheet.
  • 02 Change outfit: the video + the pirate outfit sheet.
  • 03 Change environment: the video + text only.
  • 04 Change character: the video + Lumi's character sheet.
  • 05 Change companion and rail: the video + Nami's sheet.

Tip

To change a character or an outfit, or to add a new one, give the model a character sheet (front, sides, back, face), not a single picture: it works better when the camera moves around them. One reference image per step is enough, and none when the change doesn't need a very specific look.
